Some years ago I lived in a really cold flat, and then my mum showed me how to crochet granny squares.  I then had a brainwave that I would make a blanket for the bed.

Fast forward seven (yes, 7!) years, one discontinued yarn later (Sirdar Donegal Tweed), 256 granny squares sewn together with 12 rows of granny stripe border.  And as for blocking and washing, nahhh, it has gone straight on the bed instead!  Cheesy  Hurrah!!!

It might be sometime before I make another granny square  Wink

Ah, that looks fantastic! And aren't you glad to be done finally?  Cheesy I recommend going through with washing and blocking and all. I mean, you've given it 7 years; what's a few hours?  Wink

I love that detail shot, it made me aware of how warm and snuggly that blanket must be, and how great the yarn is. I like the random pattern, too, it works great for the colors.

Fantastic! I'm sure it would take me this long to finish a large blanket as well. Love the colors. It looks perfect for a little cottage!

I would just LOVE a little cottage!  One day!  Although that make take a little longer than the blanket  Grin

Thank you all for your comments! I actually found myself looking at a crochet squares motif book today in the library, but restrained myself (for now!).

Thank you for your comments!  I must say the blanket is very warm!  Although it is getting a bit chilly here, so far we haven't needed the heating on during the night, as we have had the blanket on the bed over the duvet.  So hopefully all that crochet will save us some money on our heating bills!  Cheesy
