Pyrography is the art of burning...it literally means "fire writing". It is most often associated with wood (also known as woodburning), but it can really be done on a lot of different things. I also work on leather and paper, but wood is by far my favorite and easiest method.

Lisa

I tried something like that a long time ago with a soldering iron and I've tried something similar on leather (I liked the results of that, not the stench however). It didn't look neeeeeeeeearly this good. What did you use? It looks fantastic.

I love how intricate these are! Is there any danger of setting the wood/paper on fire when you're doing this?

Do you mark the pattern out in pencil first?

I use a variable temp burner,
Lisa

What kind of burner is that? Is that a special sort of tool or something you may get at DIY stores?

I remember having a lot of fun doing that way back as a kid/teenager... I'd like to try again but without investing lots of money; what would you recommend?
(I have a ton of recycled wood laying around that I don't know what to make of, lol).

These pieces are really beautiful. The intricacy of the design and sheer amount of work that went into them amazes me!

These are amazing!

Do you use different tips for your burner wand? I was thinking of experimenting with a cheapie 25-watt soldering iron I have lying around but it only has the standard wedge. Would you recommend buying the built-for-purpose tool?

Thanks in advance. Your work is inspiring!
