I wanted to make a messenger style knitting bag that had pockets just for needles.  I seem to bust needles all the time when they are down in the main part of the bag.  I found one to buy, but thought I could do something similar.  I also wanted to try a new-to-me technique: welted pocket.  After finding lots of online tutorials and one in a book I have, I attempted the pocket. I never did find a great tute with lots of photos though.  I roughly drafted some dimensions and then went to work cutting (and sometimes re-cutting.)

Outside of Bag.

Welted pocket and close up. The "welted pocket" flap uses an eye and hook to attach to the bag.

Open the welted pocket flap to reveal needle storage.

Looking down into the bag.  There is also an interior pocket which I did not get a picture of.

ETA: comments and crits welcome - I'm working on getting my sewing skill improved.

Thanks! The cat material is fun. It was a surprise find in my stash. I had quite a bit, so I'm sure the kitties will be making a second appearance somewhere.

Purr-fect. I love the knitting bag. Mine is a re-purposed trade fair bag with pockets, but not knitting friendly pockets. I love your ideas. And the fabrics are very fun. Stashes are wonderful.

Great Job! I love your welted pocket & your kitty fabric too!! Instead of a knitting bag you could use the same idea but make pockets for maybe a credit holder & maybe a change purse & a cell phone holder etc. Very nice, great design!

Will do personal swaps!! I make Art Dolls/Junker Jane Dolls/Raggedy Ann & Andy Dolls/also TM Patches
