Hi, My name is Abs, i've been crocheting since age 11 (now in my early thirties and still addicted to fashion, crocheting & crafts).
There is nothing I love more than the challenge of a custom costume design within a theme.
My inspiration always comes from bold colours "I love colour!!" So, when I came across this post last night I was absolutely beside myself with excitement!
The concept for the Pump-kini came from the idea of being able to attend an outdoor "Halloween" inspired pool party (based in the cold climate of the UK this would sadly have to be indoor for me
) but let's pretend the pool party is on the coast of the beautiful Miami beach with white sands, real shells and clear blue sea. The first colourful thing that pops into my mind when i think of Halloween are Pumpkins. You can't have a Halloween party without a strong pumpkin.

Every component is hand crocheted by me and i used a black felt tip to create the look of pumpkin curves. There is also hand sewn elastic in the leg openings.
Ruffle Detail Close Up
I used 100% acrylic orange yarn for the main body of bikini with black acrylic yarn mixed with a fine burnt/metallic orange yarn for the edging and ruffles.
I created the pattern as I went along using the measurements from the mannequin. I started at 11.30pm (UK Time), four cups of green tea & eight hours later here it is.
