My good friend's birthday is up and coming, and I always choose the D.I.Y route when gifting!

He's a woodsman and spends a lot of time living outdoors, so I was thinking of making him a camping care package.

Anyone have good ideas for this?

Some things I thought of are fire starters and a fabric kindling carrier.

Thanks guys Smiley

Yes - you could also make a kit for him - a small metal tea canister to hold good matches, with sandpaper on the inside lid as a striker.  Small first aid kit.  If you can, maybe make a walking stick with a hollowed out handle to hold some of these things.  You could make cooling bandanas or neckties if he likes to go hiking in the summer - good for staying cool.  What about a decorated flask or water bottle too.  Those paracord bracelets - there are a few DIY decorative ones that you can knot, so he has a length of cord to use if necessary.

Thanks for your reply! I am definitely going to include the matches/sand paper container.

I was wondering if you knew where one can find paracord? A Micheals? Walmart? Canadian Tire?

That's a great idea also, because having rope in the woods is always beneficial.  Smiley

I would probably go to an outdoor sporting goods store.  Canadian Tire may carry it in with their camping goods.  Try places like Mountain Equipment Co op too.

One of my DH's good friends is taking him hunting for the first time next week, so I'm going to make them some pocket hand & boot warmers.  They're just like little rice hot packs, very quick and simple to make.  I always microwave a few and then put them in my boots before I go out in the snow -- warms them up nice after getting chilly sitting on the porch!
