I made this Halloween pillow for my partner in the Vintage Halloween swap. Her fondness for black cats inspired the design Smiley.

I found the quote online and stamped it onto a piece of oatmeal colored linen fabric. The cats were painted to the same fabric with fabric paint and the freezer paper method for stenciling.

To make the kitty cats pop a bit more, I back stitched around them with bright orange DMC embroidery floss.

I had a bit of trouble piecing this together since I stink at measuring and math is hard!! It all came together when I flipped the design from horizontal to vertical though. I had fun making it and managed to use all fabrics from my stash!

I hope you all had a safe and spooky Halloween!!

very cute!  I do a lot of freezer paper stencils, but it never occurred to me to embroider an outline on anything!  I love the effect - thanks for the inspiration!  Pinned!

I loooove the stitching around the stencils.  That really gives it such a polished look.

Thanks for sharing!

This is so pretty!  I love how you embroidered around the cat stencils.  It makes them really pop!

Your stitching is sooooo neat and really sets off the cats. I'm sure your swap partner will treasure that pillow.

As the proud owner of that pillow, I can assure everyone that not only is this pillow gorgeous, but Lime's tiny stitches along those cats are perfect!  (Or purrrrfect? Ahem. Sorry. Grin)

That is just absolutely lovely -- quite elegant for a Halloween pillow!
