Traveling Christmas Countdown Village  - featuring Elmer's products

This Christmas, we'll probably be traveling back to the mainland to visit family, and I was trying to come up with some sort of traveling countdown/advent calendar that was more than just opening doors on a piece of cardboard.

I present the Countdown-to-Christmas Village!

"Village?" you ask. "But it is just a box!"

"Nay!" I say.

Look inside...

Twenty-four tiny paper clay houses are hiding inside!  Each is equipped with a velcro bottom so they can easily be "planted" in the lid, which is a snowy meadow of felt!

As we go through December, we can add a house to the scene each day, and when everyone has arrived, we will know Christmas is here!

Ah yes, and for the "traveling" part... The velcro holds the tiny houses in place in the lid, so I can close it up and carry it wherever we go for the holidays!

And now for the fine print:
All of this was made possible by Elmers Products!
The CraftBond Precision Embellishment Glue worked great to cover this paper maché box in paper (I applied it with a brush). I also used the embellishment glue to attach the velcro to the bottoms of the little houses.
The X-ACTO Precision Tip Scissors were perfect for trimming off the edges of the velcro after they were glued on.
The design on the top of the house was made with Elmer's Painters markers, and the stars around the outside are Elmer's Gel Pens.

What a fun alternative to old fashioned advent calendars! The use of velcro is brilliant.

Oh, loving this!  Gives me all sorts of good ideas!  Does the glue appear to be holding well?  I mean, sometimes glue may separate from certain types of items after drying (like a glue stick, for example)---and did it appear to bubble the paper you were working with?
