Aloha Magnets - featuring Elmer's products

I had these little tiny canvases sitting around that I had made a while back, using primed canvas sheets and one-inch wooden tiles.  Every now and then I have gotten them out to make a miniature painting or whatever, but this time, I decided to make a little series.

Materials:
  • Tiny canvases, or small wooden tiles covered in paper or canvas
  • Micron pen or permanent stamp pad and alphabet stamps
  • Elmer's Painters Sherbet Swirl Markers
  • Elmer's Gel Pens
  • Elmer's CraftBond medium size glue dots
  • Elmer's Scrapbooking Double-sided tape
  • Magnets

This was mostly an experimental project from the start.  I was super excited about the Elmer's Painters pens and was looking for things to paint.  I started off by coloring on the canvases in a splotchy pattern and smudging it with my finger a bit.

I didn't get too many in-progress shots, because I was playing around with materials.  For the lettering, I had started off with alphabet stamps and a normal waterproof inkpad (which was a bad idea!).  The letters promptly rubbed off, so I traced over the shadows that remained with a micron pen.  I had also tested the ink around the edges, which also rubbed off, giving it a nice vintage-y look.

I also added some little swirls with Elmer's Neon Gel Pens to add a tiny bit more color.

To finish up the back, I cut some inch squares of scrapbook paper and stuck them on with a couple pieces of Elmer's double-sided scrapbook tape.  Then I used the Elmer's glue dots to attach a magnet to the back of each.

Since the first attempt at the lettering made me a little paranoid about the letters rubbing off, I coated the tiles with a quick layer of resin.

Yay!

Saw some of these tiny canvases recently, and was wondering what could be done with them. This is such a great idea. Smiley
