Map Paper Pinecones - featuring Elmer's products

I do love a good recycling project and I'm particularly obsessed with some pages that are falling out of an old map book at the moment. I bought some paper balls at my local market haberdashery and I already had the sari silk yarn from another project so this was a pretty inexpensive make, not to mention fun!

I used...

  • Old paper (maps, book pages, wrapping paper...)
  • Circular punch
  • Elmer's Precision Embellishment Glue
  • X-ACTO Precision Tip Scissors
  • Small strips of sari silk yarn (you could use ribbon or any yarn)
  • Paper balls

Use the end of the scissors to poke a hole in the top of the ball, then push the nozzle of the embellishment glue in and squeeze a little glue into the hole. You don't need much as the glue works really well with just a little amount. Then poke the two ends of your yarn into the hole and wait a minute or two for it to fully dry.

While that's drying use your punch to cut out your circles. I used 20 circles for my wee ball.

Then cut them in half, leaving one whole.

Using the embellishment glue, attach the whole circle to the underneath of the ball.

Then start to attach the half circles around the ball, adding the embellishment glue like so.

Start with 4 at the bottom around the circle.

Then add another row. You will need more and more half circles to go around each time. Try to overlap them nicely.

Keep going! Cheesy

When you get to the top, make sure you fit the half circle right up next to the yarn.

Use 4 half circles to go around the yarn snugly.

And you're done and ready to hang!

These are so warm and lovely!

I'm working on some greeting card projects lately.  Do you think this glue would hold thicker paper stock like reusing cards for this same project?  Please say yes. Cheesy

Very cool.  I'll definitely pick some up.  I have to make a (weekly Cheesy) trip to Hobby Lobby this weekend anyway. Grin
