Postage Stamp Cards - featuring Elmer's productsI bought a bunch of used postage stamps a while ago (from
artypharty), knowing they would be good to use for *something*

When I was thinking of ideas for Christmas and thank you cards, I thought they would be perfect since they're already little artworks in themselves. To keep the recycling theme I used some cardboard and salvaged fabric too. This would be good for bits of fabric and cardboard that you would usually throw away. Yay, recycling!
Christmas cards

and (without the cardboard) butterfly thank you cards

To make these I used...
- Old postage stamps
- Fabric
- Cardboard
- CraftBond All Purpose Glue Stick
- Elmer's Precision Embellishment Glue
- Sewing machine & black thread
First, choose your favourite stamps. I wanted all of mine to be portrait orientation to suit my cards.

Using the glue stick, add a smidge to the middle of the stamp. Just enough to stick it down in the centre, but don't go to the edges. Then press it onto your fabric. I used the CraftBond glue stick and it adhered to the fabric perfectly. Then cut around the stamp leaving a border of fabric (a couple of mm) on each side.

Next, stitch around your stamp in a contrasting thread. For some stamps I went around the outside and for others around the design. I wasn't bothered about it being perfect because I wanted a scrappy look with the ends showing.
*Note: Sewing through paper will blunt your needle. You may prefer to hand stitch this instead.

Place your stamp onto the cardboard and cut around, leaving a little border. Then use the embellishment glue to attach the centre of the fabric (inside the stitching) to the cardboard. It glues quicksmart!

Here's a closer look at one where I stitched around the design.

I've made mine into cards, but they could easily become gift tags too. It will be fun to send people stamps that correspond to the year they were born!
