Keith Haring Inspired Clips - featuring Elmer's products

One of my biggest inspirations is Keith Haring. Love, love, love his bright and vibrant work. When I saw the Elmer's Painters Neon Colors I knew I wanted to do a Keith Haring something. I grabbed those painter pens and set to decorating some clothes pegs. I do hang my laundry outdoors, but I also use clothes pegs in my studio... a lot. I have hundreds of them all over the place, so why not decorate them with a bit of inspiration and make them easier to find in my giant mess.

For this project I used the Elmer's Painters Neon Colors, CraftBond Gel Pens, Elmer's Precision Embellishment Glue, wooden clothes pegs, and magnets.

I began by applying a base coat of solid colour using the Painters pens. I've painted clothes pegs before and the process was much easier with the pens. The Painters pens are filled with acrylic paint and are easy to use. Just give them a shake, then press the tip down to get the paint flowing. I'm sure older kids would have a grand time using these, and their moms would appreciate that there is no cleanup involved. I didn't have any drips or spatters using the pens and I'm dreadful when it comes to making a mess!

Next, I added my basic design.

The paint markers I used had medium tips. To add some finer detail, outlines, and smaller embellishments, I used CraftBond Gel Pens in contrasting colours.

The gel pens worked well on the painted wood, helping to define the base colours, and making them 'Pop'.

Here's another set I created, just using random designs...

I added some magnets to a few clothes pegs using the Elmer's Precision Embellishment Glue so that I can clip all of my miscellaneous papers together on the fridge. I used a fairly strong magnet and the glue is holding up just fine. I haven't lost a single coupon yet  Wink

Ahhhh, neon!  These clips would be lovely to utilize in gift wrapping, I think!  They need to be spread around to family and friends for sure.

I had no idea that the paint pens were so colorful and easy to use!

A peg or two in a stocking would be a fun thing for all...

I love your designs!

That does look like a better way to paint clothes pins.  Regular old marks don't quite do it, and cleaning up after painting is always a pain. Especially when you have 3 kids under 7 who want to participate!  Lovely little works of art, Knickertwist!
