This is a pattern called Circle Play by Reynola Pakusich. Almost all of the large circles have an animal print. I worked on this, off and on, for over 3 years. This is the biggest quilt I have ever made - that is a king size bed!

The circles are very easy. Her book has very clear instructions. It sounds complicated to describe it but you can make one circle in about 10 minutes.

This is so beautiful! Truly a gorgeous piece. I like that it looks both modern and classic at the same time. The amount of different fabrics looks so interesting!

Thank you for all the kind words! Very basic instructions:

First you make a circle. Then you make a square out of 1-4 triangles. Mostly my squares have one large triangle and two small ones. Then you appliqué the circle on top of the square and cut out the circle of fabric under the appliquéd circle. I used these circles along the border. Then sew the squares together.

The blocks are pretty easy to construct. The difficulty is selecting the fabrics and coordinating all of the squares. I quilted straight lines along the stripes (made from the triangles), and I did free motion quilting inside each circle.

It's massive!  And beautiful!

I saw the first pic and hadn't read the text, and expected it to be sort of knee-rug sized... then I saw the shot of it on the king sized bed and I think something in my brain may have gone 'ping'.  Wow.

Thanks again!

This circle pattern is great for large prints.

Also, I tried a new detail- a strip of brown ribbon around the inner black border.

I was worried about it puckering or shrinking unevenly, so first I finished all of the quilting and washed and dried the quilt. I didn't prewash any of the fabric. I wanted it to do all of the shrinking it was going to do before I added the ribbon.

It is a little puckered but not bad. I am thinking of adding some more narrow ribbon to the other side of the black border and along the binding. I really like the texture and shine.
