Just in case I lose power in the storm, I downloaded the tutorial video. I'll be able to watch it to get me started, and then once I'm past the beginning, I should be good to go! School is cancelled in the city I live in, so I'm expecting that the city I work in (25 miles north) will cancel soon.

And after watching the tutorial, I agree, if you can use a crochet hook - use it.  The knitting needle method had me shaking my head.

Right when I was about to settle in to crochet on Monday, the power went out in the storm. While I could watch the downloaded video tutorial, the light really wasn't good enough to try working with a new yarn. But, I have plans for Sunday night to try it!

As other have pointed out, 1) the yarn seemed to stifle creativity and 2) your shawl looks great! I do crochet a lot, and knit occasionally knit. I've been trying to wrap my mind around something other than the dime-a-dozen of the scarves that are made out of this yarn. Your post has inspired me (which I need right now). The colorfulness is great, and I *love* swirlies! A giant swirly to wear? How cool. This definitely rocks! Great job, and thanks for sharing. ~b
