Oatmeal Containers

Hello,

I'm contemplating to make a yarn holder out of oatmeal containers. They have just the right size for such a purpose. The problem is the inside. I don't want to leave the cardboard untreated. I love to work with natural fibers and there is always the possibility of invading and destructive pests, so the containers need to be cleanable and not offer surfaces that allow such critters to hide or dig in (easily at least). I was thinking of covering the inside with washable contact paper or spray paints.
But I don't know if it's possible to apply contact paper inside that shape. And I don't know much about spray paints. Are there paints that would be usable for this purpose? Or are there different alternatives that would serve such a purpose?

Any ideas/suggestions?

If you want to paper the inside, you can measure and cut and trim the paper to fit.  If you want to spray, maybe use a sealer/clear coat and call that a day.  You could also use cedar balls or some kind of natural repellant like that and just tuck some into the containers when you place your yarn balls.

Sounds like a cool idea! They really are a good size for a yarn holder.

I wonder if just a few coats of modge podge would do the trick?

I just saved my last oatmeal container - I have some tentative ideas for what to do with it, we'll see what happens.   I just wanted to say that mine is coated on the inside with something - maybe some kind of wax? Anyway, it was washable; I used dish detergent and it came out fine, didn't fall apart or even get mushy from being wet at all. (Which actually means the outside is probably coated too.)

Maybe yours is the same? I'm talking about one of those tall cylindrical containers that look like paper or maybe cardboard? I'd have no problem putting yarn in mine just the way it is, after washing. If yours is different - not coated - maybe varnish would help.
