I am not your carpet ride; I am the sky...

I haven't made anything in months.  I set up my work area in my new home (comandeered the entire dining room, should say) weeks ago, but have been too chicken to actually turn on the machine.  Well, last night I kicked myself in the butt (and so did my partner) and I sat myself down.  And though I had some very silly mistakes, once I got going, only exhaustion made me stop.  I was rusty and not following any pattern, so these all took me so much longer than they should...or ever would again!  They're simple designs now that they're worked out.  I know you sewists know what I mean.  Smiley  Anyway, here's what I made last night:

Needlebook and matching wrist pin cushion:

The cushion is velcro'd o so I can detach it.  I want to make a strap for my sewing machine with a square of velcro to attach it to, I think.  My scrap of this fabric, which I love, isn't big enough for the sewing machine strap, alas.  It wasn't even big enough for a wrist strap, I had to put elastic in it, like a headband.

A removable cover for my hardback sketchbook, made from a drop cloth:

I call it, "Overcomplicated Primitive," because I took a simple design I've made before with light cotton and made it more complicated by wanting those raw edges.  Which only got a bit tricky when I added the loops.  See, I needed a way to keep it closed and keep my pencil (and maybe a pen, too...the loops are big enough for two things) with it, so I put on a double ribbon loop closure that does both:

Then I needed...yes, needed...LOL...a matching bookmark.

It's so good to be sewing again!

Glad that your butt got kicked!

And what a nice start back...things to make sewing easier and more fun...cute pincushion and needlebook!  I like how you made it a bit wonky with the zig-zag stitch...shows off a bit of your personality!

What a good idea to include a bookmark for your journal!  I see you are already using it...more sewing projects, I hope! Cheesy

Have fun and get back to sewing!
