I don't sew, crochet, or anything like that... but I joined anyway.

Just joined the other day. My wife (the lovely goldfishpollywog) has been here a while. I don't sew, crochet, or anything like that (though she does, but you might have known that).

Well, they did teach us crochet in 5th grade, but I've forgotten it in the decades since. I can sew on a button, but it won't be pretty.

Enough about what I don't do, here's what I actually do:
I do basic woodworking and I make lamps. I also make wall hangings out of hardboard (aka high-density fiberboard).

So far, I've built three bookshelves, our son's bed, our headboard, some sci-fi themed wall hangings for our son's room, and several lamps that populate our house.

I wish I were a skilled carpenter or even a handyman-level, but like a good geek, I have too many irons in the fire for me to get too much skill in any one area.


I've been meaning to join for a while so I can comment on goldfishpollywog's projects and maybe even work up the nerve to try something swap-worthy.

Hi Halogenspock, and Hi to everyone here. I'm a newbie from New Zealand.
I'm looking forward to learning some handy tips about all sorts of craft topics.

I've just joined a learn to sew class and am going to make a summery top in chartreux green cotton viole Newlook 6871.
I'll be adding sleeves but the wrist cuffs will be narrow rather than puffy, and the length will be longer, a tunic length to wear with trousers/pants and jeans.

It's summer here and we've had some lovely hot days when a top like this would have been perfect! light and airy and very cool because of the floaty viole fabric and loose-fitting style.

Up til now I've been doing all my sewing by hand. My husband gave me a beginner's sewing machine - Brother BM 2600 and I am looking forward to learning how to use it.
