I recently signed up for a hoopla Craftster swap (don't worry, this isn't a spoiler for anyone) and while I was trying to come up with ideas I googled vintage felt embroidery and found this post:http://twinfibers.blogspot.com/2009/11/vintage-felt-embroidery.html and immediately fell in love. I also found a great tutorial on making a dahlia type flower here http://news.holidash.com//2010/04/23/mothers-day-corsage/, and that was all I needed to create this!
Everything is sewn on by hand (no glue anywhere!) and the yellow flowers were made with the same petal shape as the dahlia flower, just slightly rounded and sewn on differently, and the small purple and blue flowers were made with circles. It was a lot easier and quicker than I thought it would be, a little under 4 hours. At first I was disappointed with the black background but it has started to grow on me. I thought about picking up a pretty cream color felt at the store before I came up with this but said to myself "I'm never going to use this" so I left it behind. Just goes to show that you should always take every opportunity to hoard crafting supplies because you WILL need it SOMEDAY!

WOW, that is beautiful!!!  I like it on the black background because it really makes the flowers pop.  Going to be pinning this when I'm home from work.

One of the things I love about craftster is learning that I'm not the only nerdy person who likes to craft. When I read your username, it took a minute to register, but after seeing everyone's interests on the swap, I've gotten used to the idea that there are lots of people who like sci fi/fantasy, etc. So, thanks for that, but more important, I think your hoop is beautiful and I too like the black because the contrast with the flowers makes them seem to float.
