i really struggle with translucent clays. i find it very hard to slice the cane thin enough (especially when its a larger cane) that the translucent is clear not opaque plus i find layering the cane slice distorts it somewhat so ive been experimenting trimming and then baking thin slices first then pushing them into fresh clay and trim to desired shape. bake and sand. a little more work i guess but no distortion  
the larger pendant (left) measures 6.5cm by 2.5cm the smaller pendant (right) measures 5cm by 2cm

the technique also works for old cane slices that have become to brittle to work with (just be very careful when trimming) like this puffin cane which was over a year old. could be a useful way to store cane slices indefinitely

The birds are finely detailed, yet streamlined. The colors are luminous. These are really beautiful.

Yes, the details are wonderful, bright, clear, and distinct, and I see no signs of distortion at all.  Lovely.

these are absolutely wonderful and unique. I'm amazed that it's polymer clay and not painted! Outstanding work on these.
