This was posted before but since then I've remade the hat and tweaked a few things!

The brim was made by tracing the shape of a store-bought hat's brim onto a large empty plastic food container, cutting it out, sheathing it in fabric, then sewing through the plastic. The rest of the hat was so simple to put together and took no time at all; just two rectangles sewn end to end, a circle, and a thin strip to go around the bottom edge of the cap. The underside of the brim and the inner band are made from polyester satin, which lines/protects the parts of the hat actually touching your head and gives everything some inner support.

Fabulous!

I had no idea making a hat like that could be that easy---a plastic tub...whudda thunk it! Grin

Love the fabric and your model did a good job showing it off!  Wink

Oooh love it!  Grin How difficult was it to sew through the plastic brim? Or did you actually punch some holes through it first to make it a little easier?

It wasn't difficult at all, actually. Those containers are sturdy enough for the brim of a hat but flexible and soft enough to sew through with no problem. I did break a needle while working on this, but that's because I was pushing instead of guiding it through the machine.

I used this technique on another project posted here on Craftster
