Little Visitor 16 Gallery - Halloween and the Winter Holidays

For Thanksgiving Coccinelle, my brother, and I will be going to a friend of mine's house (and then possibly to some friends of my brother, too).  I was asked to bring appetizers, which Coccinelle and I started pre-prepping.

First up was making dilled cream cheese (that's dried dill) which will be used with either smoked salmon or a heart of palm strip placed in an endive leaf "spoon":



Here are the palm heart strips along with some sliced cooked beets (which will be paired with goat cheese and placed on small squares of a thin, crispy/chewy, rosemary-and-raisin toast):



Then we made cheese crisps from thinly shredded parmesan:



Pictures of all the finished appies and of course Thanksgiving dinner (or dinners if we end up going to my brother's friends later in the evening) over the weekend.

Well my day was beyond crazy and my neck is killing me, but today was a good day I hope all of my fellow American swappers had a good thanksgiving!

Poor Ihaka did not get to experience the big family gathering, traditional Thanksgiving yesterday. We were supposed to go up to Love's cousin's house for the big family meal, but unfortunately, he got injured that morning during a 5k run he was doing. Someone tripped him and he fell badly to the road, scraping and bruising his left knee and very badly slicing open his right hand. (It looks like someone took a cheese grater to it!) So, he just wasn't up for driving over an hour to the family meal and wanted to keep off his leg yesterday since he has to work today.

We still did a meal at the home including turkey and homemade mashed potatoes with stuffing and gravy and such but it was just the two of us eating on the couch, not two dozen of us. It's ok though, there will be not only one but TWO big family gatherings to attend at Christmas since we go to both his family and mine Christmas Day. 

He did get to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade though! That's a HUGE annual tradition. Pretty much everyone watches it and it's been around since 1924!

So a low-key Thanksgiving for Ihaka but a very busy one for me!! (I had to do all the cooking and cleaning and take care of Love's injuries so I was beat!!)

Anuenue is having a mostly low-key weekend, but next week she is going back to Albuquerque and then to San Francisco. I won't be able to upload pics until we get back from SF though.

Yesterday, Anuenue helped cook dinner. Here she is with the deep-fried turkey


Today she helped put up some holiday lights, made cookies, and planted this amaryllis bulb


She also helped make some baby presents for friends that we will visit in SF!

We had a calm Thanksgiving... went snorkeling (as per tradition) early in the morning, and then had some food with friends.  Rupert really liked the plant life around the pool where we hung out for the afternoon:


On Wednesday, as a sort of turkey trot, we hiked up the ridge next to our house.
Here's the trail head right off the road.


There were some nice views from the open part of the ridge!

We are still here and hanging out.  Albert has helped do some fun stuff.  Last night though Fred, our elf on the shelf showed up and Albert has been hanging out with him.  Even helped him make his special North Pole breakfast!  Pictures soon!
