Ok, here's the situation: I have decided that I want to make matching shawls for the bridesmaids (3) in my wedding, as well as one for myself (of course!). I have chosen a pattern I like (http://www.stitchdiva.com/knit-crochet-patterns/endless-crochet-cardi-shawl) but it uses a lot of yarn (1790-3373 yards depending on size!). We are going to have a Fall/Autumn theme at the wedding, so the shawls are going to be autumn leaves colors like burgandy red, pumpkin orange, mustard yellow, and white/off-white for me. I want them all to match each other in texture and color tone because I want them to be worn *during* my wedding.

Therefore, I've been looking for yarns that are:
  • the right weight yarn (DK)
  • have all four colors I want in the same yarn
  • are made from nice material (I don't need 100% silk, but 100% acrylic is out of the question...)
  • AND have enough skeins in stock for me to buy enough...

Unfortunately I just CANNOT find my yarn anywhere! Does anyone know a good online store that might have these quantities of yarn? Should I keep looking for the perfect yarn that will have all these qualities and in the quantities I need, or should I just settle for trying to find a couple yarns that are "similar enough" to complete the color selection, knowing that it may be obvious they aren't the same yarn when they're standing next to each other? I'm stuck and I could really use your help!

Red Heart and Lion Brand yarns both have their own web site which includes all their specialty yarns.

I don't know if this is too late, but -

If you can't find all four colors in the same yarn then just look for yarns that are similar in weight, fiber content, and style. By style I mean - You probably wouldn't want to combine something plain with something fuzzy; while it may be a nice look generally, for a wedding it may not work. You may be able to find similar yarns with different brands too. So don't be afraid to widen your search a bit; I would say, just keep the colors with the same brand. That will give you more options, plus you won't need such large quantities of the same thing.

I hope that helps. Good luck with your search, and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

Meg
