Sharpie marker saucer

I only discovered this technique after seeing it pinned on Pinterest - and knowing I had the stuff to play with already - isn't it great when you have everything you need for something new! - I figured I would give it a go. 

Well, you just have to really in those circumstances, don't you?

Very pretty! I've seen this idea on pinterest too and have wondered how well the design holds up after washing and use.

Entirely up to you, lol. I know I'd be pretty peeved if I made such a pretty design and it was ruined.

Well I've washed it by hand once, and run through the dishwasher once, and it seems fine.  :-)

Not sure how many times it would be okay for, but it's only a doodle, so if it does rub off in places, it's no big deal to doodle another one.  :-)

Well true to my word, I experimented a bit more, and I'm sad to say that the second go in the dishwasher wasn't as successful as the first:

And as you can see it has taken off quite a lot of the marker. 

Now that *could* be down to my not baking it long enough, nor on a high enough heat, (or even the type of pot this is done on, the type of finish, or the cleaning solution used before drawing it on), but I don't know enough about these things to say either way.

But going off this, I would say that this technique is good for display plates only, because if you do spend a long time drawing and get a result you're really happy with, you aren't going to be pleased if this happens, especially if it's a present!

But since this is only a doodle, it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the update. I was just thinking about this technique while looking at my plain white ceral bowls. Well my Husbands plain white cereal bowls, he doesn't know I'm thinking about decorating them.
