Hi Everyone!

What are your opinions on pinning your items on Pinterest for promotion?

I sell art prints and there is so much controversy about copyright and stealing images on Pinterest, I'm very apprehensive about doing this but I know it would bring a lot of views and maybe some business.

The way I see it is that if you put an image anywhere online be it on here, pinterest, facebook, etsy, or your personal blog, you're opening that image up to be stolen and used for other things, that's just the nature of the internet. Personally I'm fine with taking that risk because the alternative gets into the area of internet censorship and that's not something I'd ever want to happen.

So I say first watermark the hell out of your images and then pin them like crazy because pinterest is great for exposure and you may even get some buisness. Just don't post things under a board labeled "things i sell" or something like that because I've read discussions on blogs about how self promotion on pinterest is technically against the rules and there are people that will report you. but pinning your work just to show it off is fine. so as long as you go about it the right way i think pinterest is a great marketing tool

I feel that Pinterest is one of the latest and the most effective ways to get benefits for your business. You can add images, repin or like other pins. There is very much to do.

You should absolutely be using Pinterest in some way to promote your work -- there are articles all over LinkedIn and the web talking about how to use Pinterest to your marketing advantage. (I work for a not for profit and we use Pinterest all the time.) You aren't supposed to specifically promote your wares, but you could always ask a few friends to pin some of your Etsy listings for you and get them out there.  Or you could create an "inspiration" board, etc., and get people who like your etsy shop and blog to follow you on there.  I follow an artist who creates stencils, etc., and she pins things that people have made with her stuff. There are a lot of ways to make it work to your advantage.

I do agree that with the advice of watermarking any of your photos -- especially if you can stick your website name on there somehow. Good luck!
