Fiber Friday 21 September 2012

Spun in public!
Spun the singles for this
a single from this batt that I showed you last week and a brown SS single
plied when I got home.
Then I spun this, ~175 yards
from this batt and an aqua SS single
Then I made a purchase from Friends in Fiber on Etsy and got
this Mulled Cider BFL
in the mail yesterday and spun it into this, n-plied, ~130 yards
I love that shop! They are the best!
And I have another yarn but I can't show it yet. Dang it, USPS, hurry up and deliver that package!

Yay! I can participate!
This was my first time spinning. I got this awesome beginners spinning kit from the wonderful
jexxican
when I was visiting New Mexcio. I am in <3! I've gone through pretty well all the roving I got with the kit and I'm addicted. {to yet another fiber craft
} I can't wait to get more. It's just plain ol undyed wool roving, single ply.
jexxican I love what you did with the batts! They're gorgeous!

Thanks Inle!
That is a very nice single, Kat. Are you going to dye it or are you just going to knit it up as is? Good job for your first spin. Let me know when I need to feed your addiction

I think I may just leave it as is. There are too many colors to decide
And you are welcome to feed the addiction any time

I spun some yarn last week for WWSIP Day, but it's still on the bobbin. I'm hoping to snap a quick picture of it before the day is done so I can participate in this weeks Fiber Friday

Lovely spinning Jexx! How fun that you got to get out that day!
AmberKat! Welcome to the fibre boards! Very cute first spin skien
I can share a bit this week!
First, my hand combing adventure this week, for class of course, but it's actually pretty fun to comb, it gives a good arm work out!

(see those bowls^? Ya, Jexxi made those for me
)

And also homework, Optical color blending. I *did* have a blue violet but i can't find it
>:| I really don't want to have to redo one tiny skein lol So there is true red (unblended) red violet and violet. And bits of the blend at the ends there, you can see it in fluff form too.

jexxican, I like the blue and brown yarn! I love that you took your spinning wheel to the park with you!
Belladune, the colors you used are so vibrant!
I have one little skein to share. I just finished spinning it about 30 minutes ago. I wound the yarn onto my spindle in more of a football shape instead of a cone. I also tried to really focus on avoiding thick parts (at least, when I spun tonight). I think those two things combined are what let me get double the yardage this time compared to the last batch of yarn I spun.
This roving was called "Thinking of Spring." Skein #1 is 1.2 oz and 36 yards. The twist hasn't been set yet.

Belladune, I love the finished product from coming, but it is pretty hard work. It takes me like 15 minutes to get one sliver! But the slivers are soooo nice! Yours turned out wonderful, so fluffy! And your dye/spins are great. What fiber have you been combing/dying/spinning? Did you use the combed fluff for the dye/spins? And I'm so glad you are finding use for your bowls. Post them to the OPS gallery already!
Indigo_roses, that skein is little but vibrant! Thanks for sharing it.

Ah the colors! I'm blending pre dyed primary colors, they are merino silk blends. then I've carded them together so that I get the colors you see.
The combed fluff will remain white
I love combing, because it makes me sweat, and my arms hurt afterwards. Yay muscle building!
And OOPS!! I thought I had posted the bowls, but I guess I'm far to distracted to remember! lol I will shortly!
