I had two partners in the SURPRISE Swap that is just finishing up.  I made a large zippered tote bag/purse for each of them, using a pattern I designed a while ago.  I customized each bag to correspond to each partners' interests.

For queenofmarigold, who likes rainbows, the Rainbow Bag:

I used HeatnBond lite to hold all the small rectangles in place, then sewed around the edge of each one.  It just about drove me crazy!

The back has a big rainbow pocket

There is a small rainbow at the top of the inner pocket

And for muddy21, who likes luna moths, the Luna Moth Bag:

I used HeatnBond lite to position the pieces of the moth, then sewed all around the edges and added the details on the sewing machine

This haiku was written by muddy21; I found it on her blog, along with a photo of a luna moth she found in her yard.

Those are both really cool, but my favorite is the rainbow one. I bet it did take forever, but I think the results are worth it.

Two stunning bags.  I love the rainbow with all the different fabric patterns but I also adore the moth.

Your bags are beautiful, I think I like the Moth one the best! Cheesy  I'm sure they both took awhile to make! Is the bag your own pattern Leslie?  I've seen you use it a lot for your swaps.

Thanks, Sharalee; yes, the bag is a pattern I designed and refined over several years; I used to sell them at craft shows and on Etsy, but I recently closed my sewing business, so now they make great swap items!

I can only imagine how much time you spent stitching each of those rainbow squares in place, but the effect is so lovely. Great job!

The Luna moth is one of my favorite creatures of all time, and you truly did it's beauty and grace justice with this tote!! Absolutely LOVE it!  I personally make it a point never to wear every color in the rainbow at the same time, but that rainbow bag is totally awesome!  Whenever I see something like this with a rainbow on it, it makes me question my resolve not to wear a rainbow of colors.  Same thing happens to me when I see a well tie dyed dress or skirt, rainbow knee highs, and rainbow suspenders or belts.  Smiley
