I made this for my partner in the "Anything Goes Tiny House Swap". I started with watercolor paper, 140 lb., that was recommended by various bookmaking  folks on YouTube, cut to size of the front and back covers. I used "art board" for the covers, (compare it to dense cardboard) it's sold as art board. It's white and used as a painting surface, I think. I watercolor-painted all of the pages before collaging.

The front cover:

I think the measurements are about 3" by 3.5". The front cover/collage materials are fiber paper added on with gel medium, stitched, and typewritten message/captions.

Inside front cover:

Prepare your workspace - I used the paper that is leftover from my students' work plus some spray watercolor.

Music page plus digital images

Page 2 - Use what's on hand

I used some scraps - lace and paper and felt buttons.

Page 4 - Measure twice, cut several times page

Page from an old math book plus Tim Holtz tape measure ribbon

Page 5 - Add texture page

Textured paper that was watercolored and then I layered lace and paper lace on top.

Page 6 - Mix in color page

Originally, I stained the paper with coffee grounds and tea bags from the staff lounge at school, but then I watercolored over the stains.

Page 7 - Put a bird on it page

This was a wink and a nod to the swap I was organizing at the same time as this swap. In the tv show "Portlandia" - everything is cuter with a bird on it!

Page 8 - Add in some vintage flair

I added a book page from a book about the history of Idaho and a photo from the same book, plus some dyed trim.

Page 9 - Feel free to add leftovers

A scrap paper page and I included part of a San Diego map for my partner.

Page 10 - Add black and white sparingly page

Made with fabric, trim and a polymer clay cameo that I received in a swap.

Page 11 - Blend in exotic spices page

Paper collage with stamps I received from swaps the month I was making this book.

Page 12 - Send from home with love

Back inside cover - Swap description and author/maker info

Back cover

As with the front cover, I glued various handmade papers together, and I waited for the glue to dry thoroughly, and then I stitched the paper collages on my sewing machine. I then glued (with gel medium) to the covers, which are cut from art board.

I know my partner appreciated this craft and it was fun to assemble!

Next time I do this, I will plot out the pages before I start assembling!
