That's great! I do the same thing. I learned to crochet by watching my mom teach a cousin. I still don't know if she ever learned how to crochet. That was 41 years ago! I taught myself to read and follow patterns. I sometimes find some that give me a challenge, but mostly I can follow them. I have remade patterns to be the way I want them to be.
