Sorry to hear about your cherries Ptarmic!  Canning is easy and lots of fun.
I was curious about why pumpkins can't be canned and found this:
http://www.pickyourown.org/pumpkincanning.php
Apparently you can if you use a pressure cooker??  Is this right MW?

I love that pickyourown website.  The recipes on there is what I use for most of my canning, including the syrups and the pluot jam.

I would love to swap for things kids could do in the car on a long car trip (3 girls ages 5-12). I can knit, crochet or trade yarn.

Pumpkin is a lot easier to get than good sour cherries....I may have to try that next year, as schlepping the cherries back and forth between different locations is tiring, and last summer there was no power at any of the possible freezers for a while. Canning pots do show up at the thrift store sometimes. Hmm.

UTM, I saw a listing for a farm near Poolesville that has pyo sour cherries, btw.

i've been thinking about what supplies i could add in my shop, and i was wondering if anyone could use paper cutouts? i have a cricut machine and several disks, so i could do some custom cuts. i have a "childs year", "paper dolls", "cupcakes", "storybook", "lifes a beach", and one that does calendar themes i can't remember the names of.

i think i'll post ones that i have left over from my own projects and see what people think.

i also thought about making bookmarks from harry potter book pages, as i can't seem to stop buying them when i see them at garage sales.

Yep, but that falls into the category of why bother?  At least for me.   Cheesy

Hehe, really?  We had to use a pressure cooker in our poor lab because we didn't have our own autoclave.  It was great!  I would get one for the house if we had the space.  Smiley

jenleahlynn, when you say "cupcakes" are you talking about cupcake wrappers?  I have a cricut too and was curious because I read a discussion about them being hard to size.

cupcakes is a font with the letter cut out of a cupcake. it also has layered cupcakes without the letters. i used it for birthday banners.

cupcake wrappers would be a cool disk...
