The first thing I've ever knitted!

I'm so proud of myself for finally teaching myself how to knit, I've been making excuses for far too long, so this year I set 'learn to knit' as one of my New Year's Resolutions. I thought it'd be nice to share my very first knitted creation with you all

The UK residents among you may have seen the little bobble hats gracing the top of a certain brand of smoothie bottle at a festive time of year, and my task this year was to knit at least one of them to send off to said smoothie company to help them raise money for charity. Et voila! The picture kind of gives away who it's for I'm afraid



I love how neatly the rows turned out. I'm a little bit addicted to knitting now, though I'm still quite slow and prone to dropping and gaining stitches at random. Practise will make perfect I hope! If any UKers want to make some bobble hats too, you've got about a fortnight until the closing date - links etc in my blog (linked in my signature).

What a brilliant little first knit! Well done on teaching yourself! I think that’s harder than having someone you know with knitting experience teach you (and show you how to fix mistakes). 

I remember reading about the smoothie hat fundraising in a magazine in a dentist’s waiting room last winter which was of course out of date and the deadline had passed, I didn’t realise it was an annual thing. I'm glad you posted on craftster before the closing date, I might have to get my needles out and see if I can knit one or two and send them in on time.

I'm not sure how long they'll continue to do the Big Knit, but it's been every year for ages now. They're pretty straightforward to make (only 28 stitches wide) which is probably how I've managed to make 2.5 of them now without much trouble, despite being a knitting newbie

I have been told that my knitting technique is weird, but hey, I'm self-taught and as my technique works for me I'm sticking with it!

Thank you for informing others about the annual Innocent fund-raising.
I have been reading about it for years - but usually well after the deadline and have never gotten around to actually knitting any hats.

Also, I'm in Canada so the cost of the postage would exceed the donation the company makes.

Wow! If you can do that as your first knit, you certainly must have the knack!  I look forward to seeing more knitting!

Trekky, thanks, I should point out that I had done a tiny practice square before, and this hat took me about ten attempts to get going on, so it's not like I just whipped it up straightaway after learning how to knit

I am a bit addicted now, and plan on making larger projects soon. I figure that because I can cast on, bind off, knit, purl and stitch things together, I've pretty much got the basics sorted, and should be able to give most things a go
