It's been a while since I posted anything, so today is a good enough day as any. For the WoW swap, I made my partner a poppet version of her blood elf paladin in her favorite armor set, black dragonscale mail. It was interesting to try and translate a video game image into a real life piece. But I'm really pleased with how it came out. So much so that I want to make one of my main toon (and a friend of mine wants one of her main toon  Cheesy )

The armor is made out of black felt and I hand painted the details with silver craft paint.

I even learned to crochet just so I could make a wig cap. I have to say it's now my favorite way to attach hair. And I have to give props to my hubby who picked out exactly the right color of yarn that I was looking for without me being with him at the store  Smiley

Thanks all. I had a lot of fun with this.

Tanza: I found a couple of videos that helped a lot to figure out how to make a crochet cap. People who make Waldorf style dolls make them a lot to attach hair to the doll. Dancing Rain Dolls has a couple of decent video tutorials on how to create a crochet doll cap http://vimeo.com/3380767. I also found a really good video on youtube on how to do the basic stitches http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqca00LdmAc which helped a lot with figuring out how to actually create the stitches needed to make the cap. There's also quite a few pictures on flickr on how to create a wig cap, but I needed to be shown how to make it (hence the videos lol).

This is a picture of the cap I made before I attached it to the head. You just keep crocheting around and around, testing the size of it on the dolls head, adding more if needed.

And once it is the size you want it, you just tie it off and stitch it to the dolls head. And to do that I just whipped stitched around the edges and continued to whip stitch in a spiral all the way to the center of the head to make sure the cap was extra secured.

From there it was just looping yarn through the different parts of the cap with a crochet hook and attaching it to the cap. Dancing Rain has a tutorial for that too http://vimeo.com/4554532.

Hope that helps  Smiley

Ok the details you got into her face are AMAZING. Completely amazing. Even the gravity defying eyebrows look good lol. And the armor looks like you plucked it right out of the game. Great job Smiley

Aww thanks  Smiley I was almost ready to pack her up and remembered I had completely forgot to add the eyebrows lol (probably because I still wasn't sure how I was going to make them. Glad I had plenty of glue lol).

I'm glad you like her. Her face was just painted on with craft paint, except her eyebrows which were sewn on after I used glue to stiffen the yarn.

OK,I am new to this site and cant figure out to start my own question/comment. I am planning to make a poppet of a Gnome Mage for my best friend/co-worker/co-GM of my Warcraft guild. She and I have been playing since vanilla wow and I just want to make it look really, really good. I saw your Poppet and was flabbergasted. It looks professionally made.

I have a question about hair for Poppet dolls. I would like to use wool locks but don't know how many ounces I need. Can someone please let me know.

thanks,

Lyrae
