Taking a giant item and making it smaller has been done. Let's take something too small and make it fit!  Thanks to swinneyswitch's awesome idea, the goal for this challenge is to take something that's too small for you and change it into something that fits! Clothes that you've grown out of? Kids items that are too cool to pass up but would never fit? Even patterns that weren't meant for your size? Now's your chance to make it work!

Rules and Suggestions:
  • Your entry should not have been posted on Craftster previously (ie not something you made a posted years ago!)
  • You must include a photo of the item before you upsize it!
  • The original item must be too small for you to wear comfortably.
  • Post your thread in this board from Sept 24th and Sept 30th EXTENDED! Enter through Oct 17th!!!. Voting will be from Oct 1st through Oct 7th. Oct 18th - Oct 25th!
  • It isn't necessary for the item to remain the same kind of thing (ie, a shirt can but doesn't have to stay a shirt, it can be changed into anything!
  • Reconstructions will probably be the norm, but if you have a pattern that is too small, you can work on making it your size, just be sure to show your work!
  • Tutorials aren't necessary but they're always appreciated!

how fun!  Hrm... I'll have to dig through my kids stuff...  Or my dresse.  I wonder if there's anything left in there that is actually to small...

I take it we could add material?  Like say we were to use up two items that were to small?  Or just grab out of the fabric stash to make up the space?

can't wait to see what people come up with, it seems like my kids outgrow everything, or the cute stuff on the great sale is never my size. Grin

I'm so happy you extended the challenge! Perhaps it will motivate me to get busy on my-it's-too-small-but-has-potential pile.

I wish wish wish my room wasn't a terrible mess and I could reach my sewing machine.  It was supposed to be re arranged and put back together a month ago, but now I'm waiting on a part that is never going to get here Sad (well it'll get here eventually.. but not fast enough for this challenge for sure)

I JUST found this today when j_en's redone man shirt showed up another board with a link to this one.  I wish I'd found it sooner!  This would have been a wonderful challenge to try.  I think upsizing things is somehow more empowering and would cheer me up when sewing clothes.  I'll have to try some anyway.  I want to take too-small knit shirts and use them as yokes for skirts and pants, personally.

Her unique upsizing of plain t-shirt was inspiring! Congratulations to you, sxyskeksis and to everyone else who made an awesome upsized item!  Smiley
