i made this southwest art doll using fabrics that i got when i was in santa fe. she didn't really turn out the way that i expected--she's more cartoonish than i thought she would be--but isn't that how it happens Wink?

her necklace is one of the bottlecaps that i found on the road during vacation.  here are eight of them--these were like found treasures to me-- her necklace is made with the bottle cap in the upper right:

and i used one of these to whomp a hole into it for the hemp string:

i don't think that i'll be able to get that exact New Mexican look to caps here in NJ but i've been spending time rusting up some caps that i bought on ebay.

I love the bottle cap detail also. When I took my assemblage class, the teacher gave us sharpened nails to use as punches. I asked one of my coworkers if he would grind/sand some for me and he told me just to use pavement as a grinding mechanism, which I did and it works great for punching thru bottle caps.

And what solution are you using for rusting?

I like her face - cartoony or not.

What a lovely art doll she is, Susan! How nice of you to make her a nice art cat to accompany her!

My kids love bottlecaps a lot and take them home as if they found the biggest treasure, haha! But you gave me an idea what to do with them.

Thanks for sharing Susan!  Cheesy

It's so great that you made her a cat buddy - I'm sure she's much happier now! And the bottle cap necklace is a great touch. Isn't it funny how things like smashed bottle caps are so much more interesting when they are from somewhere else?

i only WISH i made that cat--it comes from the mind, spirit and hands of teachart!
smmarrt--for this i used bleach and cider vinegar then left them outside through a few thunderstorms/and hours of sunshine.
