I made my own swimsuit!

My sister-in-law and I had planned on going to the Wisconsin Dells earlier this year, and I determined that I needed a new swimsuit.  Unfortunately (fortunately?) because we'd planned to go in April it was a little early in the season for buying swimwear, and what little I found in stores was hideous.  I decided to make one myself, and then discovered the lack of even decent swimwear patterns.  Undaunted, I pondered how I could make it work.  I dug through my own patterns looking for something to alter, and found a halter dress pattern http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/patterns/sewingpatterns.pl?patternid=9965 that I could use for the top.  For the bottom, I decided the best thing to do was trace off a pair of underwear, since it's basically the same thing and I knew it would fit.  This is what I ended up with!

Very clever. The broad straps are very  nice and the gathered midline on the top. I like the fabric you chose and it fits well.  I used to have a hard time finding swimwear patterns.  I now mostly use an old Kwiksew book. But the styles availbale are definitely limited.   Well done on designing your own.

Looks better than anything I've seen at the stores! Great job with the pattern altering. I especially like that the top gives some support at the sides. Did you use special swimwear fabric?

I used swimwear fabric from http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/ and swimwear lining from Hancock Fabrics.  I also ordered swimwear elastic from someplace online who's name escapes me at the moment.
