so i made this spice rack with two alcohol boxes and purple duct tape- Then I decorated small jars with labels- WARNING: the last picture is NSFW

Haha, so I'm not the only one to do crazy stuff like that with water bottles. I'll usually use a lighter to melt the edges of the bottles (to ensure they're not sharp), but duck tape works too!

Another idea - if you got some thin, flexible plastic tubing (I'm thinking the stuff they use for fish tank pumps, it's only a buck or two a metre) you could slit it down one side and put it over the cut edges.  When I was a kid Dad used a hose slit down the side to cover sharp edges on bits of sheet metal, this is the same concept but on a smaller scale.
