A Beaded Smaug Embroidery

I took part in the One Small Hobbit Thing Swap earlier this year. My partner, Murple listed Smaug as one of her favorite characters from the book, and "Never laugh at live dragons" as one of her favorite quotes. Smaug is one of my favorites too, so I thought I'd make a hoop with him as the subject. 



It is 7 inches across. I drew the dragon design, and did the lettering based off of some Tolkien-style fonts I found off the internet.



Here is a closeup of the head and fire. I used satin stitch, back stitch, and a chaotic kind of seed stitch.



I wanted to get the gem encrusted effect, so I beaded his belly (leaving the small weak spot allows him to be killed later ).



Lastly, here's a closeup of the quote. I loved being in the Hobbit swap, and having the chance to stitch a cool image like this. Thanks for looking!

Well I am not a fan of the hobbit, but this hoop is amazing! I love all of the details you got into this. The curve of the fire, the perfect lettering, and the awesome belly So cool.

Having just finished my first cross stitch, I am in awe of this. I don't know how you do it. It's so time consuming and my hands hurt. This is truly beautiful.
