I was partnered with LesliesHappyHeart for the Tiny House Swap.  I love Leslie's work (her "Mystery Critter" is the pattern I'm using as a base to practice my embroidery skills), but it would be hard to find two people whose styles differ as much as ours do.

If we were twins, I'd be the evil one.

Leslie reports liking "blues and purples", but "bright colors all mixed together too!" and her first description of a house that appeals to her was "wonky houses in bright colors."  And she had a special request for the house to include a heart.

I like swaps that push me out of my comfort zone.  Grin

Every window is filled with flowering plants... where the "bloom" is a heart.

The back wall of the house is a sky with fluffy white clouds. Why? Because it's a fantasy house and that's what I wanted it to be. Cheesy

To create this house, I first designed it in Illustrator:

Initially, I planned to transfer the computer image to wood.  Remember how that worked for me before? Well, the attempts on this piece were equally unsuccessful (and frustrating).  But one failed image transfer process did contribute to the final house.  I discovered that when you coat card-stock with Elmer's Glue, let it dry (thoroughly) and then use a laserjet printer to print on that layer of glue, you get much brighter colors than when you print on plain paper.

WORD TO THE WISE: Don't plan on using this process if you're short on time.  While the print was mostly dry-to-the-touch fairly quickly, it took days, yes, <strong>days</strong> for the ink to fully dry. Days.

Don't believe me? Well, you should know that I ruined two or three houses by working on them before the ink was fully dry. And if you think that didn't put me in a foul mood, well you just don't know me at all.

After printing it out, the house needed additional support and both the front and back pieces of the house were glued to thin cardboard.  I'm here to tell you that the packaging from Amy's Frozen Dinners is my favorite source of thin cardboard -- it's really lovely to work with.

The final piece stood approximately 3.5" tall -- here's the proof.

I love my house!  It's amazing how you designed it on the computer.  The most unbelievable part is how teeny-tiny the hearts in the windows are; I don't know how you managed to work with anything so small!

Wow! .. and lots of "oooh's" and "aaaah's" and squealing mixed right in there Grin

Well, I'm speechless for the most part.

It's so wonderfully tiny and wonderfully wonky and just lovely all over! I love all the different colors and textures and especially the sky with clouds and the grass growing on different floors and I cannot imagine how you managed to recreate windowsill plants this amazingly small .. and with hearts too! *oooooh*  and some more *aaaah*

One might think that I'd get used to the level of awesomeness you make, but I never do. Each new project of yours is more amazing than the last Grin

So much fun--so perfect for Leslie!

I was wondering if you have tried printing on the coated paper by Kodak for glossy pictures?  I received a ream when I purchased my printer...the ink dries fairly quickly on it but the paper is expensive...

I love that you used Illustrator to design your house as well...the cutting out is amazing...

Hope to see more of your lovely work!

Thank you, all... especially for the squealing.  Cheesy

alwaysinmyroom, I have not tried the coated Kodak paper -- this was such a new venture for me, I was wingin' it.  Cheesy  But now that you mention it, I think I do have a pack of photo paper around here... (glances around room) somewhere...

One thing I forgot to mention -- the "stems" on the plants? False eyelash clusters.  I discovered these when I was wandering around a pharmacy one day (waiting for a 'scrip to get filled) and started using them for plant stems in my 1/144 houses (think vases with flowers).  I love using them... natural looking and perfectly teeny. Wink

In the world of 1/144, they call it "Micro Eye Syndrome" (MES).

It's where whenever you see a tiny thing (false eyelashes, confetti, price tag holders), you immediately wonder what 1/144 object you could turn it into.  Cheesy

The woman who found a 1/144 scale wine bottle hiding in a particular type of price tag holder is my hero. I used them in my dia de los muertos matchbox shrine:

Now I want to see the price tag holder, plain!

Amazing, as always. I love that your wicked side saw a challenge and embraced it. The house is adorable! Thanks for the tip about coating the paper with glue before printing. I never would have thought about that.

Love your work!
