Would anyone be interested in a quilt block swap?

We would swap finished blocks with a group of others, you would specify the colour range if desired, but the choice of type of block would be up to the sender,

we could be in groups of say 6, so you would make 6 blocks, send out five and receive five in return. If the finished blocks were 12.5" square that would give a small lapquilt) but would be enough to make into a quilt if you used sashing and borders to bump up the size a little.

Any takers?

here is a flickr stream of people doing that kind of thing

There have been a few rounds of different quilt block swaps & depending on the format, I would be interested.

I have totally been wanting to do a Christmas quilt. I'm hoping we can pick our own fabrics like the lap quilt style swap. That would be so fun. Smiley

anyone willing to organise? I have a hellish academic semester coming up and I will be up to my tonsils in work, I simply wouldn't be able to take on organising a swap at the same time, without a big risk of me screwing it up!

the problem with that, for swappers like me that don't live in the US, is that we simply wouldn't be able to get hold of specific fabrics.

I would think that we could choose the colors we would like and maybe the style and we could all do with FQ's and scraps ?? I would not want a Christmas one but one for a gift, and hate country but like woodland or a black and white or a chocolate and white.. Hummm

Understand, but if you go back & read the details of the lap quilt swaps, what they did was that each person picked out & purchased their own fabrics.  They sent out cuts to everyone in the group and allowed a month for that.  Then once everyone had received fabrics, they could create whatever 12.5" square with it that they wanted, and had a month to do that & send them back.  So what you ended up with was a sampler, but all in the fabrics you had picked out so it coordinated.

I'm cool with the idea of just choosing color/ style... cuts down on the cost/ time of mailing out fabric to everyone, and I think we'd still end up with blocks that go together OK.

I agree. I am not against mailing fabric to everyone and then getting a sampler, but I think it might be more fun to end up with a quilt with a lot of different fabrics, but a unified quilt block theme. Plus that way we could use some of the fabrics from our stashes.

Yes, I like the randomness of waiting to see what fabrics people use and send. it would be great stashbusting!

Ok that's like the kind of swap I was in a couple of years ago.  Everyone gave color schemes and picked the style block they wanted. Like I picked wonky log cabins in neutrals and blues. Someone else wanted appliqued birds in earth tones. And someone else picked a scrappy string block and basically said the more colors the better. Like that? The only real requirement was that you pick a 12.5" block style.

Like this? http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=340357.0

I loved that quilt block swap. Didn't MareMare run it? Maybe ask if she's up again?

Seeking scraps! I'm in need of a variety of white on white scraps. (2.5inch square minimum) for pixel quilts. Have any? Swap for? PM me! Smiley

Yes MareMare ran it - why not ask her if she would organize another round?  If she doesn't want to, I might be up for organizing.
