This may just look like another simple pillowcase, but to me it is the most important craft I’ve ever made. It is made with 4 years of memories.
My daughter’s baby blanket finally bit the dust last night, after 4 solid years of sleeping with, the tears and other damage was just beyond repair. We agreed that since she is starting preschool next week, it was time to say goodbye to her security blanket. After getting her to sleep with tears (both from me and her) I decided “white blankie” was just too much a part of the family to be laid to rest in a junk yard, and so I decided to save part of it.
After doing this type of edges for the pillowcases, I don’t think I’ll ever make a pillowcase another way.

The satin side of the blanket has always been my daughter’s favorite, and so that was the side I saved to use for one side of the pillowcase. It is so worn out that it is pretty wonky now, and I have about ten tiny holes stitched up. In reflection, I should have fused this to a cotton to make it sturdier. Maybe one day when she is at preschool I will resconstruct this part.

The other side is made from an antique embroidered pillowcase that I have been holding onto forever. The embroidery chose the theme for the rest of the fabrics.

A closeup of the embroidery, again, not my work here, I just found it this way:

I surprised her this morning with it, I think I have a very satisfied customer:

And this is what the baby blanket originally looked like:

And since I’m feeling all sentimental, here we are first day back from the hospital with the blanket.

this is awesome! it's so great you were able to repurpose it. My 12 year old has her 'kittysoft' in her room somewhere - i want to make a stuffie from it, I think, but she's not yet able to deal with it cut up.

This is truly precious, and your daughter is adorable.  Yay for saving that well loved softie.  Maybe one day she can carry a small square of it as she walks down the aisle for her wedding.
