I'm so happy with how this turned out. I'm working on a PhD, and this is one of those questions that we all ask each other all the time, even though the answer is almost never "Brilliantly! I get up every day chomping at the bit to transform my field, nay, the world!" This is a dream answer for those times when someone's only asking so that they can feel better about how little they've accomplished when they hear you've done even less.

I made the pattern with pencil crayons and paper this time, instead of a program. I was originally intending to continue that green stripe out to the edges and make a circle around the rim, but that turned out to be too hard, so I improvised some flower clusters to fill the space.

Gave it to a friend in my program, and she loves it.

Isn't it sad when the general public gets all uppity when you're in the middle of a research project? I experienced that during my BS is biology, I can hardly imagine how annoyed you are.

It's hard to get annoyed when my research consists of getting paid to read books all day. But yeah, some of the questions and comments you get from people can be surprising. If I had a dollar for every time someone assumed that doing a PhD only takes a year or two...
