So, my sister (age 20) has been a ballerina for most of her life and has accumulated quite a collection of pointe shoes. She wants to do something with them to decorate her room, but we're not quite sure what to do. I suggested making a tree where the shoe parts would make up the trunk and then we could run wire through the ribbon for the branches, but she wants more options. Any suggestions?

1.) She could make a wreath: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GOCYGMzVemk/TtT-OzxxocI/AAAAAAAAAiA/Zg8Gin80aY4/s1600/pointshoewreath.jpg

2.) If she has enough you could probably sew them toes down along the edges of a dust ruffle for her bed

3.) You could also paint/dye them and decorate them to hangas wall art or even picture frames: http://cdn.indulgy.com/W8/t1/iC/261279215851150660Ba1veArrc.jpg

Holy crap, personally, I LOVE your idea of a pointe shoe tree with the ribbons as the branches! That is super creative, and I'm having no problem visualizing what it might look like.

What about a wall bouquet? In my head, I have this image of perhaps 6-10 pointe shoes dangling from an elegant spray of silk flowers all wrapped up in the ribbon with the ends of the ribbons curled, tied into bows or flowers, or perhaps "matching" ribbon added to the bouquet as bows and flowers. Depending on how it's constructed, you could also make it a free-standing sculpture as opposed to hanging it on the wall.

Thanks for the ideas! She was hoping for something that she could hang up on the wall above her bed, and I think something like the wreath or bouquet idea would be beautiful!

I was trying to think of ideas and the only thing I could think of was to take a picture of them because I think all those ballerina shoes would make a great photograph. However, as far as projects with the actual shoes themselves, I second the idea of the bouquet. I think they would be lovely that way and you could add flowers and other embellishments to make it unique. Have fun!
