Anyone starting their summer garden yet?

Yes, there's still snow outside. It's an unusually cold March, even here! But I can't just not start prepotting because the weather doesn't agree with me. This is the first batch of stuff that's going into the garden. I've got kale, garden beans and swiss chard in little individual tubes. They're newspaper rolls, so I can stick them straight into the garden and not damage any roots. Plus the paper seems to keep in moisture really well, which is an unexpected bonus.

So what has everyone else been up to? Any itching to start planting?

Bought seeds and want to build new standing height beds.  :-)

I've got peppers and cucumbers started and tomato seedlings potted up.  Peas, carrots, lettuce and spinach are just coming up in our raised beds.

Oh yes, oh yes. Those darned seed catalogs start coming now in Dec! Before Christmas! Torchure!

We have learned to wait until April to start warm weather crops here in Connecticut....they get too leggy otherwise. And usually the kale recovers and sprouts some new leaves all on its own. But yes, I am jonesin' for dirt beneath my nails.

Tomatoes, peppers, every kind of kale available, peas, beans....oh! I could plant peas. They wait and wait and then pop up early. Yum. And the garlic is popping up. Hope we don't get any really vicious cold days.

Ooh, that sounds lovely. I've got some salady-type things growing in pots, a bit of arugula and other fast-growing things that I won't get out before the snow goes. It's a little early to start tomatoes and cucumbers here, but I was thinking of getting some bush tomatoes to grow in the window!

Raised beds are awesome! Gotta love not bending down to weed every 5 minutes.

I actually had my first tomato seedlings come up yesterday so I quickly put together my plant shelf and plugged in one of my lights. I need to sow another batch of tomato seeds tonight. I have five new to me heirloom varieties started and need to start another 4 varieties that I grew last year.

Exactly like that. I have my windowsills full of starter pots (cucumber, tomato, pumpkin, etc). I also went ahead and just planted the radishes in plastic boxes indoors, since the 14-day weather forecasts don't believe it's gonna stop freezing any time soon. Days are as long as in september atm.

In my region is too early for summer garden, snowing now:), but i am ready with some ideas.

What a great idea using cardboard tubes! I like to plant something every season. Over the winter I planted snow peas and we're harvesting them now.  Snow peas can survive down to 20F/-6C temperatures. Right now I have tomatoes, cucumbers and corn in our raised beds.
