Yes, it has several coats of sealer on it, so it should be reasonably waterproof. (Hope so! Will let you know how it wears over time.)

Also, the box is a very study one -- almost like a chipboard.

The tutorial on your blog is very helpful. Will be keeping a lookout for sturdy cardboard boxes to try this out - boxy purses are so trendy these days!
