Whenever I'm in the car, I have a project at hand. I can't sit still, not even to look at the scenery. My husband who respects my craftiness doesn't think when he's driving and he'll shove things down beside my craft bag or spill his soda, making me a nervous wreck.

I decided I needed a solution! I used an empty 2L bottle that I had on hand, a pair of old blue jeans that were no longer fit for public, and a few bits and bobs I had in my sewing stash to create my own protective crochet caddy!

First, my container...I cut the top off following the edge of the shrink wrapper to make sure I cut a straight line.

I cut up my pants saving the pockets and zipper to create a cover for the bottle. The bottle is inside the cover to protect my yarn from Destructo Husband. Wink

It has a draw string closure on the top so I can easily change out my yarn. (I have a full skein of Red Heart in it for this picture so it is roomy!) I also created a pouch with some extra denim and the zipper to carry my crochet hooks and a full size pair of scissors. I tied a length of ribbon from my D ring to the pouch so it won't get lost.  It has a shoulder strap for easy carrying. I had intended for the strap to be long enough to carry it messenger style but it turned out just a bit short. I might go back and add some length to it.

I apologize for the pictures. My cat won't snap photos for me and my kids are already in bed for the night. Although, their pics would probably be on par with the cat's. Wink

Very clever, and cute to boot! Does the yarn it self weigh down the bag if you knit or crochet from it, or do you have something in the bottom to help it stand upright?

I hadn't thought of that v3nu5 but it wouldn't be difficult to put a weight in between the bottom of the 2L and the cover. Smiley

That is so perfect looking! I never would have thought it was made using an old soda bottle if I hadn't seen the pictures! It came out so adorable Smiley

This is amazing! What a great idea! I'm always worried about the safety of my yarn, too.
