Our friend's kid turned one recently.  I knew he loves monsters (he growls when he's excited - so cute!) and when I saw this chair, I had a moment of inspiration and knew he would have to get a monster-ified chair.

First, the finished product so this thread has a nice thumbnail. Smiley

Modelled by our friend's cat, who conveniently matches the chair!

And here's what it was when I picked it up from the thrift store:

Modelled by our cat, who doesn't match the chair so much.

I approached this project more or less the same way I do everything crafty - I winged it.  I traced the original cover onto the back of my ridiculously soft fake orange fur, and went to town.  I'm not thrilled with the horns, but I couldn't figure out another way to work them into the seams.  I know they're going to get pulled on a lot, so I wasn't comfortable hand-stitching them.

The little boy was actually scared of the chair the first time he saw it!  I felt kind of bad about it, but he's since learned to love it.  Here's a shot of him lounging:

Thank you for the kind words, everyone!  The hardest part of this project was working with the fur; if you're thinking about making something like this, jump in and go for it!

Oh, I love this idea!!
I think it came out fantastic!
(And I love the kitty models...and here you thought it was a kid's chair. They clearly are insisting that it is a cat bed. Well, that is unless you bought it specifically to be a cat bed and then they'd refuse to sit in it. At least, that's what my cat would do.)

I would so love to do this for my son sometime. He would adore it.
