i turned several cards in on the harry potter craftalong page. origionally i was making some for operation write home, then i found out that at our ladies overnight at church in a couple weeks we will be making care packages to send to people currently serving overseas from our area. so i decided the first batch would go there, and a second batch would go to operation write home.

i usually work on one at a time. this time i divided a sheet of watercolor paper into a 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 grid, then stamped images in waterproof ink, or used rub ons. these were highlighted with watercolor pencil. i also did a few stamping directly on white cards.
then i got out cardstock and blank cards in coordinating colors along with fabric flowers and rub ons that i got from the giversneeders swap.

I've been wanting to contribute something crafty for charity for awhile, but never got around to doing it.  Well, this weekend inspiration hit and I made up 5 pillow cat beds for the Spokane Humane Society, as well some some pom pom cat toys.  Weeee!

The pet beds pillows were super easy to make.  They were basically just two pieces of rectangular fleece, with the corners rounded, and sewed together (with a hole left unsewn), stuffed with fiberfil, and then hand sewn closed.  I had a lot of fleece at home that was needing some destashing.  I also had just a crazy amount of fiberfil at home, too.  So I ended up not needing to buy anything to make these.  The poms were also easy and fun to make!  Yay!

Great idea jillybeans!  I will have to see if my local humane society could use some of those cushions.  Goodness knows I need a project to get rid of larger chunks of fabric.
Hazel great sewing.  My shields never turn out very great.  Yours look perfect.

Fantastic charity crafting everyone! Hazel, I love that you are making shields and bags- they look awesome! Love the stash-busting cat pillows, the beautiful cards, and all of those squares!!!! Sadly, I have only made one additional square since my last post. Got to work on that.

we had a new opportunity to serve this weekend. Lifelink ministries helps organize food packing events for schools in hati. our church youth group, and several families wih younger kids met up with groups from other churches to pack 35,000 meals for schools in hati, within about 2 hours. this picture is from their website, i'm waiting for our youth minister to post pictures from yesterday. not sure i want pictures in a hairnet on facebook though.

We were paired up with another family with elementary school kids (totaling 3 adults and 6 kids under 10) each person added a scoop of dried vegetables, rice, soy flour, and vitamin powder, then the bag was weighed and sent to the sealing station. i was surprised how much our kids were able to help and they enjoyed it. my 10 year old seemed to think the rice was his own sandbox. he didn't complain once about being bored.
