S.P.E.W. (Charity Crafting)

I now have 6 squares done that I will eventually be sending to knit-a-square. I had never tried the mitred square before, but I feel very confident with it now. The yarn I used is different shades of green, but I'm not sure the color shows in the picture. I really like the puffed heart square too. I will probably make a bunch of those now.

The Sock Monkey Project update:

So far I've received 19 pairs of socks donated to date by various friends and craftsters ;-) I've contributed 5 pairs of socks and some stuffing.

So far I've made a total of 7 sock monkeys, donated 3 of them to charity, and am currently working on making 3 more:

It's been going slow but I haven't had a lot of free time. Bit-by-bit I'm sure I'll get there :-)

I've been finding that sewing on the tail, snout, arms and ears by hand is extremely time consuming. If anyone knows of a sock critter that requires less hand-sewing please let me know. I'd be very greatful!

Well I've had a busy weekend of crocheting while watching TV, haha. I have 3 hats and 3 more squares ready to go to knit-a-square. My room looks like a yarn explosion at the moment, so the good news is I'm working through my huge stash, and the items will be going to needy kids. It's a win-win.



katara, the sock monkeys look great so far. I don't think I'd have the patience for that material, especially hand sewing, hehe.

This afternoon on my break I heard that Sandy Hook is collecting snowflakes for when the students go back to school after the holidays. They're going to turn the new school into a winter wonderland. I did a quick google search and found the PTA website which has the information on where to send them. They're asking to have them by January 12, so if I get a chance after the holidays (or maybe during and get some helpers!) I'll probably make some more. Here's 9 that I made tonight. They've already been packaged up and are ready to mail off tomorrow! There's a dime in the middle of the center snowflake for scale.

Those are beautiful snowflakes, Indigo, and a touching SPEW project as well.
I have see some great snowflake patterns on Pinterest, maybe I'll grab some paper and try my hand at them.  It would be nice to do some that might be bookish themed for the fact that it is a school. (Like your snowmen one above).

I have been busy. I've just been really motivated since I found this group.

I have made 2 more hats and 5 squares. I'm making LOVE squares with the puff stitch (only have L and O finished right now), and I learned and modified a pattern for a chain stitch square. Still stash busting too!

I just placed an order for more yarn and am waiting patiently for it to arrive.  In the meantime I'm thisclose to finishing my Christmas Crafts and that will open up a lot more charity craftng time!

Way to go nisforneville!  All your stash diving and squares inspired my HPC Arithmancy OWL!  I'm going to spend 3-4 weeks hooking up squares for the Pine Ridge Reservation, with a goal of at least one a day.
