When my friend got engaged last spring I knew pretty much immediately that I had to make her wedding present.  So I scoured the internet for patterns and finally settled on this one: http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Projects/AfghansThrows/WT1647+Wedding+Ring+Quilt.htm
I started it back in November, but didn't have much time to work on it during school, so most of the work was done over winter break and the past couple of months (the wedding is in September).  Here is the result of my labors:

I did it in the colors of their wedding.  Since there's a vineyard theme to the wedding I wanted to make it look kind of like grapes on vines.

I only have a few in progress shots:

And here are some more completed pics:

This one gives an idea of size:

It's actually a bit small...I think because my rings are poofy, and I'm not entirely sure why.   Undecided  Hopefully they either have a smaller bed, or since they live in the desert will use it more for decorative purposes.
I still want to embroider a label with their names and the date of the wedding for it, but I'm just to happy to finally be done crocheting that I felt like I had to share with people.   Cheesy

Now to fit all the projects I wanted to do for myself over the summer into the next 3 weeks...

Added 8/14:
Here's the label I embroidered and am going to pin on to the blanket (last names have been blurred out).

I realized too late that what I thought was the same blue thread was actually slightly different blue thread.  I don't think it's that super noticable though, and at least the color change occured between words, so I can always just pretend I did it on purpose.   Tongue

UPDATE 9/2:
My friend opened her present back at the hotel yesterday afternoon:

I think she liked it.    Grin

lovely work!  Have you blocked it yet?  If so, then I don't know why it's still poufy.  If you haven't blocked it, give that a try, and it should stretch out Smiley

Wonderful! Can you block it so it lies flat? I bet that would help a lot. What an amazing project and gift!

Thanks guys.   Smiley
I'm not sure where I'd block it...the only place really big enough is my parent's bed, and I don't think they'd be very pleased with that.   Cheesy  My dad suggested hanging it over the banister so it could stretch itself out.  I was afraid it'd get dusty up there, but I guess I'll give it a try.

thanks!  I spent a fair amount of time at JoAnn's holding purple and green yarns together trying to decide on which ones looked best together.   Cheesy

I thought it was a puffy quilt until I actually clicked on the thumbnail!  Wow - I can't imagine the amount of work that must have gone into this.  I really like the colors you choose - especially that shade of purple.

If you have a spare bit of floor, and it's not insanely humid, where the fabric (and carpet underneath) would dry slowly,  floors with carpet work too.  Just be sure no one steps on the pins Wink

That looks wonderful! Those colors go together beautifully. I'm sure your friend and her new husband will love it.

That's beautiful! I'm impressed with the time and thought and love you put into this gift. I'm sure the couple will treasure it.

You can also lay some old towels down underneath it and swap them out if it takes too long to dry.

Nice quilt!  That's a huge amount of work, and it turned out really well!  I'm sure your friend will love it especially since you replicated her wedding colours.

Another option for blocking is steam blocking.  I often do this.... You just set your iron on low so you don't melt the yarn, and you blast the project with steam.  I give my project a little tug as I work on it so that the stitched relax and stretch out.  I find that it helps my piece grow in size, especially if it's acrylic.  Its a good idea to have a damp tea towel between the iron and the yarn so that it won't melt, and just to be safe I always iron on the back of the work.

Again, beautiful blanket!

Thanks everybody!   Smiley  Not entirely sure the groom will really "get it" but my friend is a big fan of my crafty stuff, so i'm thinking she'll love it.

thanks for all the blocking tips!  i think i'll try the steam blocking since 1.) i don't really have a large enough area of floor where it won't get stepped on and 2.) it's pretty much always insanely humid here this time of year (oh joy  Roll Eyes).

Aaahhh my friend got married yesterday!!  She opened up the present back at the hotel (some of my friends who I'd told about it wanted to see it too, so she opened it early).  She was super impressed and loved it.   Grin  I've added a picture on the main post of her with it.  Definately worth all the work.   Smiley
