That looks so retro awesome - great job!  I love the lines of the couch.  Could you show a close up of the fabric?
Sure! This is it straight off of Joann's website:

Its probably not the fabric normal humans would reupholster with, but it was cheap and the cutest option there.

That is really amazing, I cannot believe that is your first upholstery project. My first was definately NOT so pretty Sad and was no where near as complicated a project as your couch.

Did you have any training, or a decent reference book to work from or did you just figure it all out as you went along?

Thanks! I really appreciate that! I had no training or reference anything. Just a basic obsession with furniture. I just kinda took everything apart and then put it back the way I think it went before. I didnt even properly cut the fabric. Im amazed it even resembles a couch.

OMG you did an amazing job on that couch, especially for a first timer. I've done a little upholstery over the years, but I would never tackle anything that big and complicated.  And I lovvve the fabric your man chose, it suits the style of the couch so well, but modernizes at the same time.

This is gorgeous!  You did a great job.  I like the original couch, too, but the new one far outshines it!

When you say a turkey carver, do you mean an electric knife?  I have a disgusting old chair I want to upholster (I have been saying it for five years, but it's coming, really), and I also threw out the cushion, but because it was totally disintegrated and stinky.
