Oh you may not think me pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!

I belong in GYFFINDOR!

Ive been seeing a lot of thread catchers on peoples pin boards and thought I'd like one but, I cant just have a bag with a strap and a cushion I would need to geek it out some how. And it came to me the sorting hat with a gryffindor striped handle and a pincushion on the end. The hat I made with felt and all hand sewed the strap and pincushion are cotton and machine sewed. What makes it great is I didn't hide my seems which add to the hat patched and raggedness. You can roll him up and put him on display or just unroll the pincushion from the handle and hang from what ever surface you are sewing from.

I can't wait to make all the house colors as gifts to my crafty HP friends.  Thanks for looking C&C welcome Grin

I have a few skeins of Caron Simply Soft I would love to supply swap with anyone for other types of yarn, I am finding the yarn a tad hard to work with.

Love this sooo much! Wondering what kinds of clever things you could come up with for a sewing machine cover. Smiley

The hat's face is so cool!  And there's even more when you open him up!  What a great idea and beautifully made!

This is great!  I didn't even know what a thread catcher was before I saw this, but now I need one.  Your Sorting Hat looks amazing.  One question - how do you keep it from sliding off the work surface when you use it?  Is the pincushion weighted, or backed by some kind of non-skid material, or what?

Once again, awesome job!

Thanks the face was hit and miss. I just cut the felt into the shapes and sewed it up. Sorry I know that's not much help

Thank you I attached some no slip material to the bottom and weighed the pincushion down with some dry beans.
