There are so many materials in this, the miscellaneous topics area seems to fit perfectly.

I made this egg diorama for the "Put a bird on it" swap I was just in.

It is a real chicken egg. I started by doing the traditional needle pokes on each end and blew out the egg white and yolks. Then I cut open the shell wider and cleaned the inside with some soap and water.

As you can see from the front I covered the slightly wonky edges of the egg with clay branches that were painted and added some green leaves at the top. The inside has a shimmery blue sky, green moss canopy, a twig from outside acting as the tree branches, and a wee clay robin painted with acrylics.

I painted the inside and outside with acrylic paints. I added the clay details of the branches and leaves afterwards. Here is the back.

Here it is from the side. The base is made from an old brass piece I picked up at yard sale that was painted with acrylics and embellished with paper.

My partner in the swap really liked it and I had a blast making it. I hope to make one again soon for Christmas!

That is so lovely and delicate. I wouldn't have the patience to try and work with a real eggshell. Cutting it without breaking it!
I love the painting on the back too.

I still can't imagine the patience it took to do this.  My big clumsy hands would have broken the eggs a thousand times. I'm so glad you posted this, your pictures are way better than mine. It needed to be shown properly Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley
This is proudly displayed for all to see in my home. Thank you so very very much!

Ha ha. I was actually afraid it wouldn't make it. You should have seen all the bubble wrap it was in though.. with layers of tape and a plastic case taped around it. Wasn't going anywhere unless they ran over the box or something.

And to everyone saying they are too clumsy, I'm waaaay bad with breaking things. It just takes patience when you first start cutting.
